- Just listing your
site on search engines is not the answer
- Many search engines
use something called a relevancy rating or keyword density rating
to help determine the ranking your page will receive for a given
search term
- Poll a group of
people and determine which keywords or phrases you would like
to have a top ranking in on the search engines
-
Try to stick with
less than 20 words since the relevancy rating rating is based
on the percentage of a given keyword/phrase usage to the total
number of words on a page
-
The title is most
important; it should be 12 words or less and should contain
nothing but the most important keywords
-
Make the title
descriptive or you'll be forgotten quickly
-
Your page will
also need a description that should be 25 words or less and
tell a bit more than the title did
-
Try to leave out
words like the, who, of, an, etc.; they will take up space and
not help in your placement
-
Your home page
should be relatively short, sweet and to the point
-
It should describe
what you do and give the visitor a reason for wanting to look
through the rest of the site
-
It should contain
links to other key pages and sections within your site
-
Try to add value
to your site
-
This may come in
the form of helpful hints related to the products or services
that you are promoting or selling on your
-
Another bit of
value to your visitors could include links to other sites that
may be indirectly related to your offerings
-
Just remember that
you want to give them reasons to come back to the site and value
is an excellent one
-
Try to get other
sites to link to you; this may include vendors, associations,
etc.
-
Make sure you set
up procedures to monitor call-ins to your company because many
people prefer to talk to a human being and will look at a site
and then make a phone call
